25.08.2025

On August 18–20, 2025, a three-day workshop was held in Yerevan dedicated to the development of the strategy for Phase 3 of the Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Control Program (PCP) and the assessment of the socio-economic impact of these measures.

The workshop brought together government officials, veterinary experts, farming organizations, and international partners with the aim of jointly advancing Armenia’s national veterinary strategy. The event was organized with the support of the European Union’s FMD control program.

Among the participants were the Director of the Scientific Center, Tigran Markosyan, and staff members of the Serology and Molecular Biology Department, Satenik Kharatyan and Tigranuhi Vardanyan.

During the discussions, gaps in the FMD control strategy were identified, potential risks of virus introduction and spread were analyzed, and approaches for developing targeted measures to mitigate these risks were proposed. Special attention was also given to evaluating the socio-economic impact of the program, which is an essential prerequisite for the implementation of a sustainable and effective strategy.
